Abstract

Disability studies is a multidisciplinary field relevant to liberal arts and applied fields, drawing on paradigms and constructs from various disciplines like literature, anthropology, sociology, history, politics, education, and others. In the postmodern novels of Kurt Vonnegut, disability serves as a figure for alienation, helplessness, and paralysis in a world dominated by hyperreality, commodity capitalism, fragmentation, and commercialization of America. SF writers like Kurt Vonnegut, Thomas Pynchon, Octavia Butler, and others have taken disability to a new level by adding questions about the mutability of bodily form to make SF’s productive sites for critical interrogation and construction of the dis/abled body, which this paper will discuss. Disability has more prominence within the SF genre as it frequently explores mutant body forms (posthuman), how images of disability engage with the text through a problem and crisis, and provides a restrictive or liberating view of disability via binary oppositions, i.e., human and posthuman.

Abstract

Education has evolved through the refinement of effective teaching methods, and technology has been vital. It enables teachers to use interactive whiteboards, virtual classrooms, and online learning platforms. Education has also become more personalized, allowing students to learn at their convenience and work on their metacognitive abilities. The shift towards collaborative teaching and learning techniques has been pioneered in the last few years, gaining considerable attention and being at the forefront of research. Its rapid adoption is due to its transformative potential that turns the learning environment into an interactive learning space; it implies inclusivity, participation and, most importantly, deep learning, and improving retention ability. This paradigm helps to identify and fill the gap between the real and virtual worlds, allowing learners rapid access to knowledge from any part of the world and leveraging the power of technology to firstly, make learning more engaging and effective and, secondly, foster creativity that is necessary for developing critical thinking and problemsolving skills. Technology has become the vehicle for course delivery and a place where everyone involved can meet.

Abstract

Science fiction (SF) is pivotal in shaping the readers’ attitudes towards the future. Still, the main objective of a science fiction novel or film is not to predict the future or to assess any technological advancement. SF, mainly, teaches us what it means to be humane in a changing world of citizenship cum globalization. To convey this message, novelists and movie makers portray artificial intelligence (AI) as an autonomous or human-like character to ponder the condition of humans in flux and the social, economic, and political issues regarding technological advancement. Through the perspective of Klara, the robot protagonist, we explore artificial intelligence and consciousness, the posthuman situation of humanity, the future of utopia, humanity’s changing ideologies, and the human-machine relationship or human-nonhuman relationship. The way AI enacts humans is debatable as AI introspection reflects new capacities for human potential and mirrors the limits of humanity (i.e., the creature is defined and associated with its creator).

Abstract

Anthropomorphism is the universal human tendency to attribute human-like qualities to non-human beings to help one rationalise a situation or another's behaviour in various social environments. It is an essential human attitude that starts in childhood and continues throughout life. Social robots are those who interact socially with humans and display social features. These social robots are popular in science fiction novels and movies as they appear realistic and accurate to life. They are involved in everyday conversation with humans, indicating preferences and comparing real and fictional robots. Kazuo Ishiguro's Klara and the Sun (2021) reflects the behavioral, psychological, sociological, and technological facets of human-robot interaction (HRI) literature. Kazuo Ishiguro uses anthropomorphism to deliver what it means to be human; how people assign human-like qualities to social robots reflects their vision of a human being. Through AI consciousness and anthropomorphism, Ishiguro offers readers a chance to look at how we imagine ourselves and our creations, reminding them that the stories we tell about AI are also stories about us as humans. Anthropomorphism is not rooted in a specific belief system but in interaction, especially where one must establish a relationship with a non-human entity as if it were an actual human.

Abstract

Petrofiction, a term coined by Amitav Ghosh, emphasizes oil encounters, explores novelistic and planetary problems, and creates ideologies through the nexus of oil infrastructure and extraction. Niger Delta has become one of the world’s most endangered and polluted ecosystems. In this place, lawlessness and criminality manifest themselves in theft and kidnapping, hindering the development of society. Petrofiction, like Oil on Water (2010), mainly revolves around the individual psyche and how social structures are shaped by hydrocarbon energy that marks the advent of Petromodernity, the future, a path away from poverty, and the redemption of a nation. Oil on Water (2010) challenges the Western narrative of violence and focuses on the specificity of place and its mediation by histories of economic and political relationships with the world. Helon Habila is considered a literary chronicler of post-independent Nigeria, and his novels are socially conscious, portraying the Nigerian social experience. Habila’s petrofiction foregrounds how economic and political relationships have evoked violent ecological transformation inseparable from Delta's degenerating conditions. Oil on Water (2010) highlights the difficulty of generating explanatory narratives that help make sense of place affected by petro-violence, i.e., psychosocial, and ecological repercussions. The use and abuse of energy have significantly impacted the world, and writers like Helon Hablila highlight the social and environmental consequences of fossil-fuel energy's industrialization.

Abstract

Women"s history had always remained a marginalized and subaltern history. In the modern historical trends and discourses, focus on women and gender history has been crucial, revealing and much needed. The history of ordinary women needs to be uncovered - their lifestyle, customs, beliefs and backgrounds. However, even within this historical strand, political and social life of women has relatively been treated well, while the cultural aspects comprising religious life is shelved aside. In this paper, we investigate the religious history of women through a newly emerged yet significant religious tradition of Gujarat in the early 19th century – The Swaminarayan Sampradaya. Amalgamating the two historical disciplines of gender history and religious history facilitates us for fresh inquiries, revealing accurate insights of everyday religious life of women. Investigating the role, depiction and contribution of women, this paper deals with critical analysis of accounts of women"s lives in the Swaminarayan Sampradaya. In the early 19th century, women were largely absent from the public religious sphere. Yet, a significant and substantial role and participation of women is seen in this tradition. Therefore, a fresh inquiry is required through an alternate history based on the vernacular sources. This is one such unique tradition which sheds light in detail on the religious life of ordinary women hailing from different backgrounds. Focusing on how women are described in the vast and rich prose and poetic literature of the Swaminarayan Sampradaya, this paper aims to prise out the crucial history of the religious lives of women in the early 19th century. Through this paper, we intend to write the history of Swaminarayan Sampradaya from women"s narrative.

Abstract

Having spent his childhood in Kathiawar, Mohandas had experienced a few unique methodologies of resistance. Young Mohandas had never anticipated that he would ever implement these techniques he learnt as a child to settle one of the historical industrial conflicts by leading the struggle between the workers and owners of Ahmedabad mills. Popularly known as the Ahmedabad Mill Strike, this internal conflict did not involve external adversaries like the British and hence required delicate solution. Known as the ‘Manchester of India’, Ahmedabad was a booming cotton textile centre hosting hundreds of mills and employing thousands of mill-workers. Following the First World War, conditions had become harsh for the Ahmedabad Mill workers due to the plague and inflation. The situation had become critical to such an extent that on one hand, the workers resorted to strike and on the other hand, the mill-owners resorted to lockout. This deadlock between the workers and the owners was unlocked by Gandhiji by employing unprecedented, unique and undeterred methods. Understanding human psyche, Gandhi exercised psychological persuasion and moral methods on the strong foundation of non-violent satyagraha. These methods reflected practical application of Gandhi’s theories and beliefs. While contemporary class conflicts and industrial struggles involved bloodbath, the Ahmedabad Mill Strike stood apart for its non- violence. Gandhi mobilised the workers through his dynamic leadership, while maintaining healthy working relations with the mill-owners. This was perhaps early reflection of the major events to unfold in the anti-colonial movement. Gandhi also expanded the scope of strategies to be employed in India’s struggle for independence by carrying out first of his seventeen fasts.

Abstract

Development economics witnessed several paradigm shifts. The current shift from pro poor growth to inclusive growth is attracting the attention of researchers and policy makers across the world. Different strategies and models evolved over a period of time. There is no universal definition of inclusive growth. From the existing literature, inclusive growth may be defined as broad based growth which not only creates new economic opportunities but also ensures the participation of the poor in the growth process and facilitates equal access to these opportunities by all- particularly the poor. However, there is lack of theory building in the conceptual framework of inclusive growth which can give scope for detailed investigation. There are few international cross country studies and there is lack of literature for specific country studies. This study aims at bridging some of these very important gaps. The present study develops a composite index for inclusive growth in Indian context with the help of a well-defined analytical framework. 15 major Indian states were considered for this study. These states constitute 77% of India’s geographical area, 89% of total population and 82% of India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This study considered 20 socio economic variables which are grouped into six different dimensions – economic, amenities, gender equity and financial inclusion, human development, sustainability and governance with cross sectional data for the year 2001 and 2011 - the decade in which many Indian states initiated major policy changes in fostering inclusive growth. The data sources are from the Census, Central Statistical Organization (CSO), Economic Surveys, Planning Commission and NSSO studies (several Rounds). This study used the tool of principal component analysis (PCA) for weightage scheme. The raw data obtained for different socio-economic variables are normalized through Z score before the component index is prepared by multiplying the Z score with the weight of the concerned indicator. The composite score for inclusive growth is the simple linear aggregation of the component score of all the six dimensions of inclusive growth. An empirical verification of growth inclusiveness has also been studied within the framework of multiple regression analysis.

Abstract

In organizations the performance and efficiency of its workers are calculated by the performance evaluation framework. Successful appraisal interventions are necessary since each staff's place mostly on job is unique. Efficient appraisal aims at optimizing job performance, expressing priorities, recognizing workforce talent and assisting workforce guidance. Most companies have switched from the method of evaluation to the management platform of workers. It article traces the role of the appraisal system for workers. In data analysis, dependent and independent variables methods of study were used. The key method used for this research is surveys, market research conversation and sampling methodology. The findings reveal, by comparison, that both advantages and disadvantages on efficiency of workers were caused by a business's individual performance framework.

he reality that job satisfaction was linked to different superficial variables including such human, economic, academic, ethical and lucrative influences is now a range of things. Employment happiness is the response of a person to both the workplace, and also the action of a person to either the job. The purpose of this review is to recognize variables that motivate workers to stay for a long period of time within certain employment but not those who produce unpleasant emotions that cause them to leave. The variables that affect staff morale include level of compensation, bonuses, workplace culture, tension and duties, empathy for staff, better ties with managers, cash benefits. Unless the individual is not happy mostly with task at hand there really are possibilities for more employees missing, reduced turnover, lower efficiency, errors intentionally and participation in all other disputes. Laying on the duties and living standards and workplace protection the level of happiness varies from site to site. ." Job fulfillment is crucial since most citizens busy at workplace. If the aspirations of the workers are exceeded (as well as) then staff become better than they've been pleased with. Enhanced business engagement would be accomplished if job satisfaction improves.

he paper titled ‘Social media and its impact on Psychology of working women’ analyses the effect of media on women, on their choices and also self- perception. In recent times, especially due to Covid and the subsequent lockdown most of the people took to social media to pass their time. This led to many famous trends on social media and the online sales raised as compared to before. There were many research studies published during this time that pointed to mental trauma across the ages. The previous studies pointed to women being affected by social media and made their decisions based on them. It also caused anxiety and stress. Some women even had to take some help to cope up with this. The researchers wanted to study this trend and to find if the media affect health, perceptions, relations of working women. This study concentrates on working women especially related to teaching and training. The study was conducted using a Likert scale questionnaire sent to 100 working women. The questions were asked to find if their choice was based on different social media platforms and how many and which social media platforms do, they use. Another important objective was to find if social media affects their self- perception and self- esteem. The hypothesis was “Working Women in Teaching profession make their choices based on the social media platforms and their self- esteem is affected by it.” The result showed that the women spent considerable time on different platforms and the result analysis showed that the working women were influenced considerably by the media. Their health and perceptions were affected moderately. The moderate effect on health both physical and mental could be because women in the study were faculty who themselves counselled many students and are aware of the negative impacts of social media. They enjoyed using social media and took advantage of it in a positive way. This points to the Uses and Gratification Theory credited to Jay Blumler and Elihu Katz’s work in 1974, the media is passive, and the users are active. The users are conscious and select the media according to their own needs rather than be passive and get influenced by the media. They rely on their knowledge of their motivations to make media choices that will help them meet their specific wants and needs. The result also showed the same trend that the sample of working women were educated, and they demonstrated an awareness of the use of social media and restricted it by not allowing it to influence facets of health, perception and relationships. But a major influence is witnessed when it comes to shopping via social media platforms.

Abstract

Teaching writing is an important aspect of teaching language skills to undergraduate engineering students. Due to the pandemic it has been very difficult to teach the step by step teaching of writing.This paper establishes the importance of use of online apps namely Mentimeter and Google Docs for teaching writing and also evaluation. The survey was carried out using Google Forms, another online app. Post teaching 106 students took the survey and the results clearly establishes the usefulness of these tools in teaching writing and further also establishes the usefulness of these apps in collaborative writing.

Abstract

Graphic novels are popular among the children. This can be positively used by teachers of language to equip learners with language skills like reading, writing, vocabulary, mood, and media literacy. Abstract

Drinking water, the basic requirement for life is deteriorating day by day and its sources are decreasing at a faster rate. Sea water is present in abundance on the Earth but converting it to drinkable form is expensive for domestic usage. The paper focuses on purifying the sea water using the humidification and dehumidification process and reducing its TDS so that it can be consumed. The system works on the principle of the natural water cycle in which the sea water evaporates and humidifies the air just above. As the temperature of air drops below its dew point, the vapour in the air condenses and falls on the earth as rain. Similarly, the experimental setup consists of a solar water heater of evacuated tube collector to heat the water, a double-pipe heat exchanger to heat the impure sea water from hot water, a humidifier where the air gets heated and humidified by the impure water, and a dehumidifier where the air gets cooled below the dew point and thus its condensation results in pure water. The paper presents the design of a humidifier, dehumidifier, and double-pipe heat exchanger and the results obtained from the setup built based on the design.

Abstract

Ahimsa is an important spiritual doctrine shared by Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. It literally means ‘non-injury’ and ‘non-killing’. It implies the total avoidance of harming of any kind of living creatures not only by deeds, but also by words and in thoughts. From the Gandhian notion of non-violence, one of the most fundamental questions is that what the importance of Gandhi’s non-violence theory in the present era? Ahimsa and its roots are in Buddhism, Jainism and Hinduism. It is not that only we should use ahimsa of physical, we can take the example of ahimsa of mind that we should not use violence in our thoughts and in our speaking. The researcher will explain ‘Ahimsa’ in the terms of Gandhi’s three monkeys which give us philosophical view point to see, to listen and to speak at the world. Finally, the researchers will focus on how ‘Ahimsa’ works to help to create peace. Ahimsa is not possible in its virtual senses, which will also aim to examine concept from theoretical and practical perspectives. The researchers focus to study ‘Ahimsa’ with reference of Gandhi’s an autobiography My Experiments with Truth.

Abstract

It is almost generally agreed that the history of mankind is the history of mistreatment and domination. Literature is the process of humanization of the world. Such a humanistic approach is manifested in Dalit Literature. The present study is an attempt to account for Dalit Literature which focus on democratic values such as liberty, equality, fraternity and justice. The millions of downtrodden people could not fulfil their fundamental needs to survive in India. Dalit literature raised the problem of the marginal world. The social transformation, self-dignity and equal justice are the basic principles of Dalit literature. The oppressive social system necessitates hunger, poverty, humiliation, superstition, practice of untouchability and casteism among these oppressed and miserable communities. Subjugation of women is a major theme of discussion. These suppressed communities are victimized socially, economically, culturally and physically in the name of religion, caste and gender. They try to escape from the man-made barriers that made their life excruciating. They want to liberate themselves and their community from the age-old habits and customs. The present research paper is to evaluate and interpret the condition, the sufferings, the survival problems and difficulties faced by Dalit women in Indian society especially, based on characters portrayed in Mahashweta Devi’s Rudali. Women face plenty of social issues and problems all through their life and become sufferers silently from their beginning of life. Women in Indian culture considered as a trouble and burden for their parents and life partners as they believe that women are only to consume money the whole life. In the Indian society women have been considered as an ordinary compared to men in every phase of life. Due to such mind set of patriarchy for women, create so many issues and problems in their life. They should go extra miles with men to prove their ability and equality in every aspect of life, but unfortunately, they do not get any scope or opportunity in throughout their life. In patriarchal structure people considered women as a key to devastation, so they never allowed women to go outside and contribute in the social behaviour and activities like men. Women have been facing so many plights because of male-dominated, patriarchal social system. More ever in the modern age also women are facing same problem. They should face many more troubles in their day-to-day life; they should give fight back to set up their career and unique identity in society. Steadily some changes are happened in the mind set of patriarchy. Still, there are many parents who wish to have male child to continue their hierarchy and allow education and freedom only to boys. Women for them are only means and subordinate to keep a family happy and healthy. The researcher has also focused on gynocentric approach as being of female. The problem under study in the present research is to examine and understand why and how females in India face plenty of social issues and problems all through their life which is a huge struggle for them right from their beginning of life. In nut shell, the researcher has tried to find out similarities which are in existence in Indian Society regarding the condition of women in India, from women in Mahashweta Devi’s Rudali.

Abstract

The present research work focuses on Personal Learning Environment (PLE) as the ways and methods of learning have been changed with passing time and the use of technology. PLE can be described as the epitome of self-learning in this changing era. Personal Learning Environment (PLE) is varied from our regular teaching ways. With developing various mediums of communication, personal learning has become possible. The era in which we live today is full of various uses of technology and we cannot keep ourselves far from the new concept of Self Learning which can also be called E-Learning. E-learning facilitates us with continuous learning from anywhere, anytime and every corner of the world. One can access at any time for self-learning. In nutshell, the research work emphasizes to motivate the learners with the new concept. of learning and will work as a torch for the new generation learners to tune with the changing time.
